Sotomayor

The article that I read was from the New York Times, and titled, "Sotomayor's Opinions in Business Cases Cut Both Ways." It was edited by Andrew Ross Sorkin and the stance that he takes of Ms. Sotomayor is that she is unpredictable. He lists various example such as the fact that she has sometimes seemed against big business, like when she allowed class action lawsuits to occur against Merrill Lynch. There is an instance where she ruled in the favor of a town that was attempting to take private property for redevelopment. The overall tone of the editor is that she is an unpredictable judge most likely moderate. This is evidenced by her record of judging in favor of differing political ideologies, such as against the EPA but also against big business. The author actually seems genuinely stumped as to what type of justice she would be. Her differing stances on individual rights (the town seizing private property for redevelopment), and against big business (allowing class-action lawsuits against big companies) seem to be making the author think she is more of a moderate in the sense that she is not clearly a conservative nor a liberal. However, I do get the sense that the author thinks that she would might slightly favor consumers and be against big business because he seems to take a negative stance and is using quotes from conservative speakers. Therefore, the little guy is who the author thinks Sotomayor would be looking out for. The overall attitude though, is that she will be more in the middle of the political ideology scale when it comes to her rulings on the Supreme Court.
